Timothy J. McGuire, age 64, of Holstein, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at his home of Holstein.  A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, April 03, 2024 at 10:00 AM at the Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church of Holstein with the Fr. Dan Rupp officiating.  Burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery of Holstein.  A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 02, 2024 from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM with a Recitation of the Rosary at 3:30 P.M. and a Scriptural Prayer Service at 7:00 PM at the church.

Timothy James McGuire (Tim) was born on September 19, 1959 in Cherokee, Iowa to James J. McGuire and Margaret (Wingert) McGuire. Tim died peacefully and unexpectedly at his home on March 28, 2024. The only boy in the family, Tim was the third of seven children. Tim was a lifetime member of the OLGC Catholic Church in Holstein. Tim had fond memories of his time growing up in Holstein, including being the neighborhood paperboy, excelling at football and wrestling, often pinning his opponents in the first period. He even wrestled at the Iowa High School State tournament his junior and senior years. Tim graduated from Holstein High School in 1978 and went on to play football at the University of South Dakota (USD), where he met many lifelong friends.

After graduating college, he spent time in Gillette, Wyoming where he worked in the oil fields before returning back to Holstein to help his dad with McGuire Auction Company. Tim worked alongside Jim for most of his life. When he moved back to Holstein, he lived in his Grandma McGuire’s home, which he quickly filled with a large crew when he met his wife Lori. Tim and Lori met through Jaycee’s in May 1991 and married on December 26, 1992.

Tim and Lori were avid USD Coyote fans, rarely missing a home football game and tailgating with his college buddies. Tim also loved his card nights with friends, including teaching the girls how to play Euchre when they were little.

Tim was happiest spending time with his children and grandchildren - whether that be attending their many sporting events, coaching the boys’ football and wrestling teams, showing horses, hosting family dinners or just running around Northwest Iowa shuttling kids to various events. He was blessed to spend his last weekend of life with his whole family in town celebrating his oldest granddaughter, Carli’s confirmation.

Tim is survived in life by his wife of 31 years, Lori; children, Ashley (Andy) Woolard of Denver, CO; Amanda (Andrew) Nees and their two children, Mitchell (4) and Nolan (1) of Early; Allisa (Brett) Friedrichsen and their five children Carli (13), Henry (12), Lane (10), Colt (6) and Tate (2) of Holstein; Ryan McGuire of Ames; and Kevin McGuire and his daughter, Kenleigh (3) of Holstein; in-laws, Loren Johannsen of Paullina and Rod and Kaye Carlson of Paullina; sisters Molly (Robert) Sample of Houston, TX, Peggy LeBrun of Milwaukee, WI, Maureen (Dennis) Dudley of Coeur d’Alene, ID, Michele (Brian) Hodous of Los Angeles, CA, Martha (Marty) Boyle of Holstein, Mary Pat (Armando) Peri of Fairfax, VA; in-laws, Kari (Scott) Bauer of Paullina, Randy (Angela) Johannsen of Paullina, Tami (Eric) McMichael of Templeton, as well as a large group of extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim in 2022 and Margaret in 1995, and his mother-in-law, Elaine in 2020.
