Alma Christina Augusta Hase

August 1, 1928 — September 16, 2014

Alma Scherner was born in Holstein, Iowa on August 1, 1928 to Leona and John Scherner. The oldest girl of seven children, Alma graduated from Holstein High School in 1946 and moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where she enrolled in a course of secretarial training. After completing her certificate program, Alma remained in Omaha, where she was employed by the New York Life Insurance Company. Alma often returned to Holstein on the weekends, and on one of those weekends, she met her husband-to-be, Kermit Hase of Schaller, Iowa. Kerm and Alma were married in 1954, living first in Schaller before moving to Kansas City, Missouri in 1961. In 1969, Kerm opened a car radio repair and installation business, and Alma became his secretary/bookkeeper. Their financial partnership was successful, and Alma and Kerm retired in 1994 after nearly 25 years in business. After retirement, Alma and Kerm moved to Holstein, Iowa to be closer to more family members.

Alma had an incredible love for her husband Kerm, and unwavering devotion to and support for her children. She loved watching murder mystery shows on TV, playing card games, and spending time with her family, especially her four grandchildren. Alma will be fondly remembered for her beautiful smile that could light up a room, and for the loving and caring way she treated everyone she came into contact with. Her warmth will be sorely missed by those who have basked in it for so many years.

Alma was preceded in death by her parents, Leona and John; brothers Arnold and John; and by her beloved husband Kermit.

She is survived by daughter Kristine and son-in-law David Zauke; son, Alan and daughter-in-law Dena Hase; grandchildren, Grace and Michael Hase, Matthew and Sarah Zauke; brother Harry Scherner; sisters Esther Endrulat, Louise Dobson, and Shirley Persinger; as well as many nieces and nephews.
