Alvina Marie Christiansen died at home on February 16, 2014 at the age of 95. Alvina was the beloved wife of Harry, and mother of Bonnie and Marilyn.
Alvina was born September 20, 1918 to William and Lena Meyer. She was the middle child in a family of 11 children. Her family farmed south of Holstein, and Alvina walked to country school. As a young woman, she worked for Holstein families helping with small children and household chores.
On December 22, 1940, Alvina married Harry Christiansen. They farmed north of Holstein and raised their two daughters. Harry and Alvina were blessed with a happy marriage and 45 good years on the farm. In 1986 they moved to the town of Holstein where Harry passed away in 1990.
Alvina worshipped at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church and enjoyed several card groups, playing 500, bridge and sheepshead. She loved her family and this past summer celebrated her birthday with a family reunion.
Alvina was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; granddaughter, Kathryn Torgerson; her parents, William and Lena; infant sister, Alberta; sisters, Alice Stewart, Ann Schlinz, and Alda Hirschman; brothers, Edward, Elmer, Elvie and Ervin Meyer; parents-in-law, Ingwer and Helena Christiansen; and sister-in-law, Edna Curry.
Alvina is survived by her children, Bonnie (Jearl) Wallace of Holstein and Eagle, CO, and Marilyn (Gerald) Godsoe of West Cornwall, CT; grandchildren, Christina (Andrew) Herrick, Mark (Mimi) Torgerson, Erika (Eric) Kurle, Daniel (Elizabeth) Torgerson, Rachel (Chris) Meta, John (Karyn) Godsoe, and James “Marty” Wallace; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Annetta Bumann and Aleene Johnson and many nieces and nephews.
