Armetta Kathryn (Miller) Dawson

Armetta K. Dawson, age 84, of Holstein, passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at the Good Samaritan Society of Holstein.  A public visitation will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2023 from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein.

Armetta Kathryn Dawson was born September 14, 1938 in Sheldon, Iowa to Charles Miller and Tillie Visser.  She was the valedictorian of Sheldon High School then earned a nursing degree from Morningside College, a science degree from NIACC and later a degree in Business Administration from Grandview.

She was married to Dale Schiernbeck and to this union three sons were born.  They raised their family in Odebolt, Garner and then Holstein.  They were married for 21 years before they divorced.  She was then married to Richard Dawson and they resided in Des Moines, Iowa. They were married for 10 years before he passed away.

Armetta worked in Healthcare all of her life, retiring in 2003. After her retirement she moved to Belle Vista, Arkansas then returned to Holstein in 2011. She had a Christian faith and loved to travel.  She was able to go to Europe, Hawaii, Yellowstone National Park and numerous other places in the United States.

She is survived by her sons, Richard Schiernbeck of Reno, NV and Bob (Stephanie) Schiernbeck of Holstein, IA; grandchildren, Jamie Schiernbeck of California, Emily (Tyler) Triplett of Osceola, NE, Kyle (Calli) Schiernbeck of Holstein, IA; two great-granddaughters; sister, Tillie (Duane) Staedtler of Holstein, IA; brothers-in-law, Delmar Johnson of Holstein, IA and Bill Snyder of Fargo, ND, and several nieces and nephews.

Armetta was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; son, Randy Schiernbeck; two brothers, Chuck Miller and Jim Miller and three sisters, Pat Johnson, Benadene Snyder and Sandy Boger.
