Burdell “Pete” H. Vohs, age 96, of Battle Creek passed away on Thursday, November 26, 2020 at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.  Funeral services for Helen M. Vohs, age 93 and Burdell H. Vohs will be held on Friday, June 17, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church of Holstein with the Pastor Bob Lewis officiating.  Burial will be at the Mt. Hope Cemetery of Battle Creek with military rites conducted by the American Legion Maple Valley Post #364 of Battle Creek.  A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burdell Herbert Vohs was born on September 20, 1924 to Herbert and Viola (Stofferahn) Vohs on a farm northeast of Holstein, Iowa. He attended country school through the 8thgrade and graduated from Holstein High School in 1942. Burdell entered the US Army in 1944 and served stateside until the end of the war. Upon completing his military service he went into farming with his brother Will.

On October 8, 1950 Burdell married Helen Jensen at St. John Lutheran Church in Battle Creek, Iowa. He continued farming southeast of Holstein until 1953 when they moved to a farm northeast of Battle Creek. He farmed there raising, cattle, hogs and grain until 1976 when he and Helen moved to Battle Creek. After moving to Battle Creek Burdell worked for the USDA for a few years in addition to doing some carpentry work in and around Battle Creek.

Burdell was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Holstein.  He enjoyed gardening, fishing, golfing, playing cards and spending time with family and friends. Burdell and Helen spent many winters in Texas and traveled throughout the US and took several vacations to Canada and Europe.

Burdell is survived by his wife of 70 years, Helen; nephews, Kenneth Vohs of Hopkins, Minnesota, Rodney Vohs of Round Rock, Texas and Greg Vohs of Medford, Minnesota; niece, Cynthia (William) Maaske of Woodbine, Iowa; and sister-in-law, Frieda Vohs of Holstein, Iowa.

Burdell was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter; brother, Wilbert Vohs; brother and sister-in-law, Glenn and Martha Vohs; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, David and Delores Jensen, Vern Jensen and Ann Massey, Katherine and Charles Palmer.
