Carol Borchers, age 92, passed away May 10, 2024 at the Good Samaritan Society of Holstein. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 17, 2024 at 10:30 AM at the Faith Lutheran Church of Holstein with the Pastor Scott Biecker officiating. Burial will be at the Holstein Cemetery of Holstein. A visitation will be held one hour prior to services starting at 9:30 AM at the Faith Lutheran Church of Holstein. Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein is in charge of arrangements.
Carol was born on February 22, 1932, the daughter of Raymond and Henrietta (Schmidt) Meier in rural Cherokee County. She graduated from Cushing High School in 1950. Carol was united in marriage to Kenneth Borchers on October 10, 1954, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Holstein, Iowa. To the union four children were born, David, Teresa, Mark and Keith. Carol was a homemaker and active in Douglas Homemaker’s Club, Women’s Farm Bureau, Ida County Historical Society, WELCA, Women’s American Legion Auxiliary Society, taught Sunday School and helped direct children’s choir.
Prior to her marriage, Carol was employed by Dr. Wagner in Holstein. Later she was employed at by Dr. Bender in Holstein , the Rochau Drive Inn and lastly as a receptionist at VT Industries prior to her retirement.
Carol had a love for music and was a church organist at St. Paul’s in Holstein and Salem Lutheran of rural Correctionville. She also shared her musical talents by accompanying numerous students for their vocal and instrumental contests. Carol also taught piano lessons to several students. Carol loved to bake and her family always anticipated her chocolate chip cookies.
Carol is survived by her children, David and Sharen Borchers of Holstein, Iowa, Teresa of Fort Mohave, Arizona, Mark and Karen Borchers of Galva, Iowa and Keith and Shelly Borchers of Paris, Illinois; twelve grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and one more expected. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Jean Meier of Holstein, Iowa, Mary Jo Meier, of Manson, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.
Carol is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Roger Meier and Lynn Meier and a sister and her husband, Nancy and Rev. Evan Dieck.
