Caroline Johanna (Godbersen) Niemeier

Caroline J. Niemeier, age 92, of Holstein, formerly of Galva, passed away on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Society of Holstein.  A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 15, 2018 at 10:00 AM at the St. John’s Lutheran Church of Galva with the Rev. Paul D. Egger officiating.  Burial will be at the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery of Galva.  A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 14, 2018 from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein.

Caroline J. Niemeier was born October 9, 1925 on the family farm north of Holstein, Iowa to Theodor and Catharina (Petersen) Godbersen.  She was a lifetime resident of the Galva and Holstein Communities.

Caroline was united in marriage to Gerhardt Niemeier on February 2, 1947 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Galva.  To this union three children were born, Kathy, Ken and Karen.  Caroline worked as a homemaker and farm wife.  She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where she cleaned after retiring from farming.  She helped feed the Vacation Bible School classes at their Friday picnic for more than 20 years.  Caroline was a member of Ladies Aid and Chattersew Club.  She enjoyed playing cards of any kind as well as Bridge.  You would never hear her complain and she always had a smile on her face.

She is survived by her children, Kathy Thorton of St. Joseph, MO; Ken (Linda) Niemeier of Holstein, IA, and Karen (Jerry) Jensen of Ida Grove, IA; grandchildren, Gerald (Teresa) Brown, Chad (Kelly) Brown, Gabe (Mona) Brown, Kim (Kirk) Holst, Scott (Becky) Niemeier, Kristi (Matt) Mentink, Chad (Billi) Niemeier and Heather (Tim) Gilles; 23 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by a brother, Pete Godbersen; sisters, Elvera Todd, Mary Gebers, Janet Rehse and Judy (Duane) Johnston; sister-in-law, Donna Godbersen; and brother-in-law, Vertis Boysen.

Caroline was preceded in death by her parents and parents-in-law; husband, Gerhardt; grandson, Kevin Niemeier; sister, Lorraine Dose; brother, Wilbert Godbersen; sisters-in-law, Faith Niemeier, Leona Matthew, Frances Mae Niemeier, Ruth Boysen, LaRue Less, Rose Godbersen; brothers-in-law, Louis Bertlesen, Albert Dose, Darrel Todd, Darrell Gebers, Butch Rehse, Arnold Niemeier Jr., Lester Niemeier, Carl Niemeier, Art Less and Leroy Matthew.
