Charles Thomas Stiner

Funeral services for Charles T. Stimer, age 72, of Holstein, will be held at a later date. His ashes will be scattered in the ocean in the British Virgin Islands where he and Malea spent their honeymoon.

Charles passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at the UnityPoint Health-St. Luke’s of Sioux City.

Charles (Chuck) Thomas Stiner was born on the Indiantown Gap Military Reservation in Annville, PA to Raymond Lester and Margaret Theresa (Sharpe) Stiner on Nov 20, 1951. He is survived by his wife Malea (Wienert) Stiner of Holstein, IA; his sister, Judith (Stiner) Thorson of Rockingham, VA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mike and Becky (Stocking) Wienert of Warsaw, MO; niece, Jennifer Thorson of Tucson, AZ; niece and nephew, Amy (Thorson) & Greg Reid of Tucson, AZ; nephew, Eric Thorson of Rockingham, VA; nephew and niece, Chad and Stephanie (Bromley) Wienert of Lamont, MO; niece, Lisa (Wienert) Moore of Kemah, TX; nephew and niece, John Wienert and Melaney Lee of Charlotte, NC; two great nephews, Alex Wienert (and fiancé Breanna Leach) of Des Moines, IA and Benjamin Reid of Tucson, AZ; great niece, Kristen Wienert of La Monte, MO; as well as 2 great-great nieces, Gloria and Kayleigh both of Des Moines, IA.

Chuck loved life and helping people. He was very social and outgoing, striking up conversations everywhere he went. He brought much joy to their friends' children and the community with his many visits playing Santa on Christmas Eve, participating in Christmas parades, and visiting local nursing homes. Several years he flew to lowa to drive Malea's father and mother to AZ for Christmas. His love of cats and dogs resulted in numerous strays and shelter animals becoming part of their home.

He was raised in a military family and was stationed with his parents and sister in numerous locations including Okinawa, Germany, and stateside Army posts. His family settled in Sierra Vista, AZ when he was 10.

Upon graduating from Buena High School in Sierra Vista, AZ, he joined the Air Force. His first duty station was Minot, ND, an extreme adjustment for an Arizona boy. He then went to Germany where he finished out his military service and was discharged in 1977. He was a cook and ran what was affectionately called Stiner's Diner by the military staff. His specialty was biscuits and gravy. Friends and family requested it anytime they visited, or when he visited them.

He loved to travel, and his career as a truck driver allowed him the freedom of the open road. His passion for driving led to many exciting road trips for Chuck and Malea. Together they saw the country and visited friends and family. Chuck accumulated well over 2 million miles, and his driving experience made him a mentor for new drivers and an asset to the many trucking companies for which he worked. He met Malea in 1987 while she was visiting her brother Mike and family at Christmastime in Sierra Vista, AZ. They were married 11 months later. Though they were never blessed with children, their home was always full of fur babies. They lived for 30 years in Sierra Vista, AZ, before relocating to Malea's hometown of Holstein, IA, in 2021.

Chuck passed peacefully on December 13th in the loving presence of his wife, brother-in-law Mike, and Malea's friend Lora Mercer of Massillon, ОН.
