Charles W. Mercer

May 17, 1949 — January 18, 2017

Charles M. Mercer, age 67, of Galva, passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center of Storm Lake.  There will be no services at this time.

Charles William Mercer was born May 17, 1949 in Denver, Colorado. The family moved back to Iowa from Colorado in 1995.  Chuck didn’t go to church.  He believed you could talk to God anywhere.

Chuck and his brother Bob were normal rough and tumble boys who helped his dad raise mink.  He often talked about that and the horses they had.  Chuck was in the Air National Guard and served overseas in Korea.  He worked in construction as well working his dream job as a pet wholesaler.

He met and married his wife Susan in five short months.  They both knew they were stuck with each other, and that was 43 years ago.  Chuck loved his children and grandchildren and was always there for them.  He enjoyed reading, gardening, crocheting, building things and going to local auctions to search for “treasures.” The real treasures were the good friends that they made there.

He is survived by his wife, Susan; three sons, Lee, Spencer and Charles Henry Mercer; four grandchildren, Ashley, Caylie ,Tim and Ryan Mercer; his mother, Barbara Mercer; sister, Carolyn Carpenter; brothers, Bob and Bill Mercer II, and his dad, John Flowers.

Chuck was preceded in death by his father, Bill Mercer.
