Charlyn Mcdanel

February 7, 1928 — April 25, 2015

On February 7, 1928, a baby girl born at an old hospital was immediately adopted by Charlie and Mae Miller and given the name Charlyn. She grew up with them as her loving parents in Alta, Iowa. She attended the Alta schools where she had twelve years of perfect attendance.

Charlyn was united in marriage to Richard McDanel on August 22, 1946, one month after Richard returned from World War II. The ceremony took place in her parent’s living room. Rev. Dale of the United Methodist Church officiated. To this union four children were born, Michael, Kandi, Joel and Kelli. Two girls from New Jersey came to Buena Vista College and joined the brood, Lynn Lundquist and Ellen Kilmeier. Janice Molgaard became part of the family in the 7th grade and has been calling her mom ever since.

Charlyn was an avid horsewoman, active in Eastern Star, VFW Auxiliary, a Cub Scout Den Mother and played piano in church.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law, Elsie (McDanel) Adams.

Charlyn is survived by her husband, Richard of Alta, IA; her children, Michael (Carol) McDanel of Alta, IA, Kandi (Jim) Schooley of Mayfield, KY, Joel (Gail) McDanel of Humboldt, IA, and Kelli (David) Sanders of Alta, IA.
