Clarkson Cope Carnes was born May 8, 1924 to Winfield and Olga (Schroeder) Carnes in Holstein, Iowa. He graduated from Holstein High School with the class of 1944. He loved all sports and was a member of the basketball team, in which he earned All-State honors, as well as the baseball and football team. Upon graduation he attended Iowa State University.
He was united in marriage to Pat (Luken) Carnes in 1950. To this union three children were born: Clark, Thomas and Susie. He and Pat would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in April.
Clark was among the top salesmen for many years at I.D. S. where he sold securities (stocks and bonds) for 20 years. He was also the groundskeeper for the Holstein Town and Country Club. He retired to care for his critically injured son, Clarkie. Clark worked hard to buy their family home that they still live in.
Family meant everything to Clark. He enjoyed spending time with his son, Clarkie and going to Susie and Doug’s for birthdays, holidays and special events. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Clark was an avid fisherman, golfer, and for the past 25 years, wintered in Nevada for a couple of months. In the summer he enjoyed gardening and golfing in Holstein. He enjoyed taking fishing trips to Minnesota with his family and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law, August and Lenore Luken; brother, Douglas Carnes and wife Norma; sisters, Doris Erickson and husband Bill and Donna Johnson and husband Denver; brother-in-law, Tom Kennedy Sr.; nephews, Tom Kennedy Jr., Jim Luken and Doug Carnes; sisters-in-law, Colleen Harm and husband, Richard, and Ruth Schwartz and husband Robert; and brother-in-law, Alvin Harm.
Clark is survived by his wife of 64 years, Florence “Pat” Carnes of Holstein, IA; sons, Clark Carnes Jr. of Holstein, IA and Thomas Carnes of Chico, CA; daughter, Susie (Doug) Eades of Washta, IA; grandchildren, Ethan (Kelsey) Juelfs of Correctionville, IA, Ashley Eades of Des Moines, IA, Holly Eades of San Antonio, TX, Brianna Eades (at UNI) of Cedar Falls, IA and Becca Eades of Washta, IA; great-grandchildren, Kaelyn and Hayden Juelfs of Correctionville, IA; sister, Joan Kennedy of CA; sister-in-law, Claris (Jeff) Harm of Yankton, SD; brother-in-law, Robert (Ruth) Luken of St. Paul, MN; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Clark was a kind man to everyone he knew, whose joy was his home, family and friends.
