Corrine Augusta Leckband was born March 11, 1913 at her parents’ home in rural Holstein, Iowa, the daughter of John and Cora (Fritz) Leckband.

Corrine attended grade school at Silver #8 country school and graduated from Holstein High School in 1930.

Corrine and Wilbert Michaelsen were united in marriage on February 12, 1935 in Yankton, SD.  The couple was blessed with three children: Shirley, Connie and Larry.  Connie and Larry both died in infancy.

The Michaelsens made their home on a farm south of Holstein for over 30 years.  In 1969 they moved to their home in town.  Corrine then worked at the school office for a number of years as well as serving as Holstein City Assessor for eight years.

On April 6, 1991, Corrine and Emily Schmidt were married at the chapel of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church of Holstein. She was able to live independently in her own home until November 2005 when she chose to be one of the first tenants to move to the new Char-Mac Assisted Living complex in Holstein.

Corrine was a member of the United Methodist Church of Holstein for a total of 54 years.  She enjoyed card clubs, dancing and taking trips.  Her beautiful crocheted handwork graces the homes of many family members and friends.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Shirley (Keith) Chapman of Carroll, Iowa; three grandsons, Michael Chapman of Glidden, Iowa, Will Chapman of Seattle, Washington and Steven (Gina) Chapman of Treynor, Iowa and two great-grandchildren, Nolan and Kayla Chapman of Treynor.  Also, a special nephew, DeWayne Ehlert of Stockton, CA and stepson, Bruce Schmidt of Holstein. Additional survivors are two brothers-in-law, Earl Flanigan of Aurelia and Alvin Michaelsen of Sioux City; two sisters-in-law, Harriett Michaelsen of Holstein and Theresa Michaelsen of Sioux City and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two infant children, her husbands, Wilbert Michaelsen in August of 1989 and Emil Schmidt in September of 1994; her siblings, Vernon Leckband, Golda Ehlert and Wilman Flanigan.

She was loved and she will be missed…
