Curtis was born January 20, 1936 in the family farm home west of Holstein to Carl and Irene (Gebers) Kistenmacher. He attended school in Holstein and graduated from high school with the class of 1954. He then started farming with his father, Carl, and grandfather, Louie Gebers.
Curtis married Darlene Reitz of Battle Creek , IA, on March 16, 1958. They were blessed with three children, Nancy, Karen, and James. They made their home in the Holstein area, moving to the family farm in 1972. A proud moment for Curtis was receiving Century Farm status in 2004. Curtis loved his life as a farmer, was a good steward of the land, and raised many hogs in their farrow to finish operation. He enjoyed taking family trips and making memories with family. He also enjoyed a good game of cards with cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.
Curtis enjoyed going for a tractor ride around the farm, especially on his 1950 John Deere A tractor. After his retirement from farming in 2010, you would still see him helping Jim get land ready for planting and running the combine at harvest time. Over the years he developed a keen interest in the Minnesota Twins, watching many games from home and making a few trips to the stadium in Minneapolis.
He was a proud dad and grandpa, attending numerous activities in support of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Curtis was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Holstein, where he was a life-long member.
Curtis was preceded in death by his parents, Carl & Irene; parents in law, Frank and Alvina Reitz; aunts, uncles, brothers in law and sisters in law, and numerous cousins.
