Curtis L. Rector, age 69, of Lake View formerly of Holstein, passed away on Monday, August 23, 2021 at the Loring Hospital of Sac City. A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 27, 2021, at 10:30 AM at the United Methodist Church of Holstein with the Rev. Doresa K. Collogan officiating. Burial will be at the Galva Township West Cemetery of Galva. A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 26, 2021 from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein. The Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein is in charge of the arrangements.
Curtis Lynn Rector was born on July 22, 1952 in Cherokee, Iowa to Leo and Ida (Andresen) Rector. He graduated from Holstein High School in 1970 then attended college at Iowa Lake Community College. He worked for Willow Dale for three years then 18 years with Siouxland Regional Transit (SRTS) as well as with Iowa Conservation.
Curtis met Kathleen Ryther in 1976 and they dated off and on for many years. They remained close and he remained part of their family gatherings and were finally united in marriage on August 23, 2014 at the United Methodist Church of Holstein. They made their home in Lake View.
Curtis enjoyed spending time outdoors. He enjoyed watching wildlife, especially birds. He also liked searching for minerals and gems, especially Ametrine. He collected turquoise and bear claw belt buckles. Curtis hopes that people remember him as being “one with nature.” He loved rock music, his favorite band being Kiss. He enjoyed photography, watching professional wrestling and was a fan of Hulk Hogan.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy; brothers, Larry (Pat) of Ida Grove, IA and Gay of Salix, IA; daughters, Elaine Johnson of Cherokee, IA, Theresa (Chuck) Eull of St. Michael, MN, Lou Ellen Brower (Dave Thomas) of Cherokee, IA, Dawn (Dan) Jensen of St. Michael, MN and Heidi Courtright (Todd Williams) of Cherokee, IA; 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Ruth Wheeler of Early, IA, brother-in-law, Todd (Jan) Kelly of Carnavon, IA and nephew, Daniel Rector of Marcus; great-niece, Autumn and great-nephew, Leo.
Curtis was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Ida; parents-in-law, George and Helen Kelly and his aunts and uncles.
