Danny Edwin Zahner

Danny E. Zahner, age 69, of Holstein, passed away on Saturday, October 05, 2019 at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center of Cherokee.  A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at 10:00 AM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein with the Rev. Curtis E. Benson officiating.  Burial will be at the Holstein Cemetery of Holstein.  A visitation will be held on Friday, October 11, 2019 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein.

Danny E. Zahner was born on July 26, 1950 to Edwin John and Emma Leona (Lendt) Zahner in Tipton, Iowa.  He graduated from Mechanicsville High School, then went on to play football at Morningside College for three years.  After college Danny went on to be a “Jack of all trades,,” working various jobs.  He worked at V.T.I. in Holstein for 14 years.

Danny was united in marriage to Vicki Joan (Kuhns) Niemeier on February 19, 2005.  They lived in Holstein and attended St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church.  He enjoyed motorcycles, woodworking, hunting and traveling.  He spent many years as a foster parent to many children.

He is survived by his wife Vicki; children, Joshua Edwin Zahner and wife Liz and Jonathan Lee Zahner and wife Kassie; step-children, Kevin Niemeier and wife Angie, Michael Niemeier and wife Leah and Shari Feliciano and husband Danis; numerous grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by his siblings, Janet Nost and husband Bill, Allen Zahner and wife Inez and Evelyn Cravins and husband Ron; brother-in-law, Scott Kuhns and wife Kelly; sisters-in-law, Nancy Pinhero and Cindy Driscoll and husband Carl; and many other children he has loved throughout his lifetime.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Leona Zahner.
