Darwin D. Shever, age 92, of Correctionville, passed away on Friday, September 2, 2016 at the Cherokee Villa Nursing and Rehab Center of Cherokee. A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 9, 2016 at 7:00 PM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Correctionville. Burial will be on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at 10:00 AM at the Correctionville Cemetery with military rites conducted by the VFW Sioux Valley Post #1750 and the American Legion Mumford-Moon Post #79 of Correctionville. A visitation will be held on Friday, September 9, 2016 from 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Correctionville.
Darwin Duane Shever was born April 30, 1924 to Herb and Fern (Strawn) Shever. He served in the Navy during WWII. He was Seaman First Class and was commissioned on the USS Nevada. He was inducted into the Navy on January 6, 1945 and honorably discharged July 13, 1946. Upon discharge, he returned home to farm, which he did until he was in his late 80’s.
Darwin and Alice (Short) were married on April 9, 1950. To this union five children were born. They were engaged in farming until the couple moved into Correctionville in 1990.
He is survived by his children, Jodee (Alan) Dolph of Cherokee, Jeannie (Larry) Brosamle of Correctionville, Don (Tanja) Shever of Correctionville, and Lori (Tim) Petersen of Correctionville; eight grandchildren, Stacy (Karen) Buck, James Buck, Jason (Amy) Jordahl, April (Chris) Putzier, Scott (Jennie) Shever, Richard Buckley, Bobbie (Trapper) Forch, Nick (Ashley) Petersen; 21 great-grandchildren and a sister, Donna Hansen.
Those that proceeded in him in death include his parents; wife, Alice daughter, Vicky Buck and brother-in-law, Darold Hansen.
