David L. Lund, age 84, of Cherokee, formerly of Holstein, passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at the UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s of Sioux City. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at 11:00 AM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein with the Rev. Doresa K. Collogan officiating. Burial will be at the Holstein Cemetery of Holstein with military rites conducted by the American Legion Dessel-Schmidt Post # 225 of Holstein. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service starting at 10:00 AM at the funeral home.
David L. Lund was born August 3, 1935 to Cecil and Gracia (Noble) Lund in Clear Lake, Iowa. After high school he joined the United States Navy and served for four years.
He was united in marriage to Karen A. Lund on October 24, 1964. To this union two sons were born, Tracy and Terry. The family lived in Sioux City for three years and Cherokee for 30 years.
David was a graduate of the Brown Institute of Broadcasting and made his career in broadcasting. He worked for KSCJ Sioux City, KBOE Oskaloosa and KCHE Radio in Cherokee. David enjoyed being around people and using his radio voice to keep people informed on local and national news. He was a Ham Radio operator and enjoyed astronomy. He was a member of the Short Wave Communication and the Holstein United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his sons, Tracy Lund of Pierson, IA and Terry and wife Tonya Lund of Huston, TX; grandson, Drake Lund of Huston, TX; sister, Gloria Nailor of Manilla, IA, brother, Dean and wife Sally Lund of Denver, CO; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
