Dean F. Vollmar, age 84, of Holstein, passed away on Saturday, October 01, 2016 at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center of Cherokee. A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 03, 2016 at 2:00 PM at the United Methodist Church of Holstein with the Rev. Doresa K. Collogan officiating. Burial will be at the Holstein Cemetery of Holstein with military rites conducted by the American Legion Dessel – Schmidt Post #225 of Holstein. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Holstein Ambulance.
Dean F. Vollmar was born in Holstein, Iowa to Willard and Meta Vollmar on December 9, 1931. During school he was an Eagle Scout, played saxophone in the jazz band, and played several sports. He graduated from Holstein High School and then entered the U.S. Army. Dean served in the Korean Conflict where he received two Bronze Stars, a United Nations Service Medal, a Good Contact Medal, National Defense Service Medal and a Meritorious Unit Commendation.
Dean was united in marriage to Elaine Vollmar and to this union two daughters were born, Stacy and Kristin. He enjoyed taking trips to Mexico and Hawaii with his family.
Dean, along with his brother Don, owned Vollmar Motors. He enjoyed golf, reading books, going to Okoboji and water skiing.
He is survived by his wife Elaine of Holstein; daughters, Stacy Vollmar and Kristin Vollmar; granddog, Lucy Vollmar; sisters-in-law, Lorna Vollmar and Jane and husband Ken Oehm; brother-in-law, Cal Leonard; and many special nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Don Vollmar; parents-in-law, Abe and Grace Leonard; sister-in-law, Nancy Leonard and aunt, Gerdaline Dierks.
