Delbert F. Shever was born south of Correctionville on a farm on November 29, 1932 to Albert and Mabel (Lloyd) Shever. They later moved to a farm south of Arthur where he entered country school and joined the Free Church. In 1943 they moved to a farm that his dad had purchased just outside of Cushing and entered the Cushing Consolidated School graduating in 1950.

Delbert farmed with his dad until 1952 when he was inducted into the U.S. Army. He was sent to Fort Leonard, Mo and from there took an airplane headed to Camp Roberts, CA but before the crew got there the old plane had a motor burn out and they had to land in Arizona and change planes. After six months of basic training, he came home for two weeks and was then sent to Japan where he saw his future brother-in-law, Lloyd Hendersen who was going home after serving for two years. He next traveled to Korea to the 38th Parallel where he lived in a tent for the next 16 months guarding the parallel from North Korea. The winters were very cold and the summers hot and moist. He came home on a big ship that sailed for almost a month and landed in Camp Stoneman, WA. Next, he took a train to Denver and a plane to Omaha where his parents and Mary Ann (Arp) Shever picked him up and took him home. He was very proud to have served his country and the flag of this nation. He was discharged from the Army in 1952 earning a Korean Service Medal, Bronze Service Star, United Nations Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal for his service.

On December 10, 1955 he married Mary Ann Arp at the First Methodist Church of Cushing. He continued to farm and on November 9, 1956 his first son, Bryan was born. On February 3, 1959 a second son, Stevan was born and a third son, Craig arrived on May 6, 1963.

Delbert went to GI School, was a member of the First Methodist Church of Cushing, belonged to the F. Roger Baumann Post #624 of Cushing for over 60 years and served as a board member of the Pierson-Correctionville Elevator. Delbert liked horses and went to Wyoming on several horse rides.
