Delores Maxine Henriksen McGowan was born on July 13, 1927, in Alta, Iowa, daughter of Peter and Opal (Lauridsen) Henriksen. She graduated from the Alta High School in May, 1944. On December 19, 1953, she married Merlin McGowan in Sioux City, IA. They were blessed with three children: Linda, Bruce, and Julie.
In her younger days she was the bookkeeper at Peterson's in Alta. She then spent her life loving and caring for her family. She loved playing cards, spending time with her grand children and great-grandchildren, gardening especially with flowers, travel, movies, reading, and enjoying the outdoors.
She passed away on August 9, 2013, at Sunset Knoll in Aurelia, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents.
She leaves behind her devoted husband, Merlin McGowan, of Alta; her three children Linda (Tom) French of Alta, Bruce (Deanna) McGowan of Alta, and Julie (Paul) Movall of Rochester, MN; grandchildren Jerry (Shawn) French of Johns Creek, GA, Michelle (Todd) Mackey of Ankeny, IA, Jill (Brian) Jackson of Alta, Todd (Erica) McGowan of Waukee, IA, Kristy (Scott) Brown of Valencia, CA, Michael Movall of Minneapolis, MN, Kelsey McGowan of Alta, Brandon Movall and Ryan Movall of Rochester, MN; and many great-grandchildren Davis, Taylor, Austin, and Carter French of Johns Creek, GA, Mackenzie and Carson Mackey of Ankeny, IA, Brooke, Braden, and Brittany Jackson of Alta, Mason and Maxwell McGowan of Waukee, IA, Kinley and Easton Brown of Valencia, CA, plus many other friends and extended family.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 11, 2013 from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Alta.
