Deloris Margaret (Wood) Vickery

Deloris M. Vickery, age 88, of Holstein, passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at the Char-Mac Assisted Living of Holstein.  A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at 10:30 AM at the United Methodist Church of Holstein with the Rev. Doresa K. Collogan officiating.  Burial will be at the Ida Grove Cemetery of Ida Grove.  A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service starting at 9:30 AM at the church.

Deloris “Lorrie” Margaret Vickery was born September 12, 1929 to Kenneth and Ella (Hansen) Wood in Holstein.  She moved to Ida Grove when she was three and graduated from Ida Grove High School in 1947.  She was united in marriage to George W. Vickery on September 27, 1947 and they farmed in Logan Township until 1987.  They retired to Holstein for the remainder of their married life.  George and Lorrie moved into Char Mac Assisted Living in April of 2011.  George passed away on August 5, 2014.

Lorrie enjoyed reading, playing cards, golfing, and watching sports.  She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Holstein, the Clown Huggers (entertaining at care facilities), and the Holstein Country Club.   Most of all she cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include two sons, Douglas (Kathy) Vickery of Lander, WY and Scott (Patricia) Vickery of Orwell, OH; daughter, Carol (James) Volkert of Huron, SD; grandchildren include Kristin Vickery, Megan Traughber, Ryan Volkert, Saren (Bret) Kahre , Kyle (Desiree) and Kris (Melanie) Cozad; great-grandchildren, Morgan, Madison and McKenna Traughber, Kaitlyn and Clay Kahre and Benjamin, Jocelyn, D’Arcy and Judson Cozad.  She is also survived by brother, Francis (Cheryl) of Santa Teresa, NM; sister, Donna Schmidt of Battle Creek, IA; and brother-in-law Merlin Rabe of Ida Grove, IA.  She also had many special nieces and nephews.

Lorrie was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters, Charlotte Putensen and Shirley Rabe; and two brothers, Eugene and Everett Wood.
