Don Willard Vollmar was born October 5, 1930, to Willard and Meta (Ewoldt) Vollmar in Holstein, Iowa. He was a graduate of Holstein High School, where he played in the band and excelled at football. After graduation, Don joined the U.S. Army, and spent 14 months in the Korean Conflict as a helicopter mechanic.
He married his high school sweetheart, Lorna (Meyer), and they were blessed with two children, Sheree and Randy.
Don, along with his brother Dean, ran Vollmar Motors from 1960 to 1993. He was active in the community as a president of the Holstein Chamber of Commerce, St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Holstein Country Club. He was also a member of the Holstein American Legion.
In his free time Don enjoyed golfing, fishing, boating, camping, music and driving motorcycles. He took great pride in caring for his yard. Don’s love of music led him to organize the “Holstein Deutschland Band.” He also sang for many years in the St. Paul Lutheran Choir.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; and parents-in-law, Fred and Laura Meyer.
He is survived by his wife Lorna of Holstein, IA; daughter Sheree and husband, Steve Vohs of Holstein, IA; son Randy and wife, Kathy Vollmar of Holstein, IA; grandchildren, Eric (Tricia) Vohs of Holstein, IA, Nathan Vohs of Holstein, IA, Heather (Wade) White of Dallas, TX, Darci (Brock) Boling of Holstein, IA, Emily (James) Doxtad of Holstein, IA, Melanie (Jared) Noelting of Minneapolis, MN and Kristina Vollmar of Holstein, IA; great-grandchildren, Jared, Emma and Gavin Vohs, Caris, Bria and Luke White, Graham and Nash Boling, Stella and Amelia Doxtad and Harper Noelting; and brother, Dean and wife, Elaine Vollmar of Holstein and their two daughters, Kris and Stacy Vollmar.
