Donna Mae (Gries) Korner

Donna M. Korner, age 86, of Ida Grove, passed away on Thursday, December 24, 2020 at the Willow Dale Wellness Village of Battle Creek.  A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 28, 2020 at 10:30 AM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein with Pastor Luann Benge officiating.  Burial will be held at the Holstein Cemetery of Holstein.  A visitation will be held on Monday, December 28, 2020 one hour prior to service at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein.

Donna was born on December 18th, 1934 to John and Edna Gries.  Donna was baptized and confirmed at the Methodist Church in Holstein.  Donna attended several country schools, one year in Galva, and graduated from Holstein High School in 1953.

On March 9th, 1958, Donna married Wayne Korner at the Holstein United Methodist Church.  Donna and Wayne were blessed with two sons, Steve and Scott. Wayne and Donna farmed near Schleswig from 1958 to 1998, moving to Ida Grove in 1990.

Donna was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother.  She enjoyed baby-sitting her grandchildren, quilting, oil painting, attending KCQ’s at church, and going dancing.  Donna will be forever remembered by her grandchildren for her famous cinnamon rolls, chocolate sheet cake, and fritters.  She was beyond talented, sharing her love for painting with her many pictures she painted for her grandchildren and for her other projects that she made with them, including Barbie doll clothes, dollhouses, and oil paintings.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Wayne of Ida Grove, IA; sons, Steve Korner of Ida Grove, IA and Scott (Kelly) Korner of Schleswig, IA; 5 grandchildren, Mandi (Aric) Aronson of Alta, IA, Ryan Henningsen of Battle Creek, IA Danielle (Steve) Watts of Charter Oak, IA Deidra (Nick) Brown of Denison, IA and Dana (Matt) Kolln of North Liberty, IA and 11 great-grandchildren, Collin, Kelsie, Braden, and Macie Aronson, Gavin, Cohen, and Hudson Watts, Cameron, Hailey, and Whitley Brown, and Mackenzie Jorgenson.   She is also survived by siblings, Delories Scherner, Dewitt (Colleen) Gries and Doreen (David) Umphreys; and brother-in-law, Lodean (Lois) Korner.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents in 1977.
