Doris M. Tierney

Doris Tierney was born in Cherokee, Iowa on November 12, 1927 to Carl and Jennie Magnuson. Doris attended school in Alta and graduated in 1945. After graduation she attended the Samuel’s Beauty School in Sioux City, IA. There she met George Bekish and they were married on June 14, 1947 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta. They had four children Linda, Carolyn, Jean and Bill.

Doris and George lived in Sioux City a short time before moving to Aurelia where Doris had her own beauty shop. In 1963 they moved to Denison, IA, where Doris worked for JC Penney’s until 1966. She then worked for an attorney’s office as a secretary. While in Denison, Doris was active in Eastern Star and in 1969 held the office of Worthy Matron.

On November 24, 1972, Doris married Leonard Tierney in Denison, IA and shortly after that they moved to Iowa Falls, IA where she resided until July, 2014 when she moved to Sumner Place in Lincoln, NE to be closer to family.

Doris was an active member of the Bethany Lutheran church in Iowa Falls. She is a 50-year member of the Eastern Star. Doris was an avid reader up until the time of her death. She enjoyed golf and spent many winters in Tucson, Arizona to be able to play year around. Doris also enjoyed sewing, playing bridge, and most of all spending time with her family and friends.

Preceding Doris in death were her parents Carl and Jennie Magnuson; husbands, George Bekish and Leonard Tierney; one infant grandchild and brother Robert Magnuson.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children Linda Walker (Jack) of Millville, NJ, Carolyn Weaver (Russell) of Lincoln, NE, Jeanie Bekish of Shaker Hts, OH and Bill Bekish (MaryAnn) of Omaha, NE; grandchildren, Gerad Walker, Rachelle Carman (Ted) Ashlin Gasiorowski (KayLynne), Amanda Wortman (Anthony) Stephen Bekish,(Natalie Hald, fiancée),Corey Bekish (Jen), Stasha Himelic (Mark), Amber Reinking, Brook Reinking (Gia), Natasha Reinking; 17 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and sister-in-law, Ruby Magnuson and other relatives and friends.
