Dorothy M. Grell

May 3, 1926 — March 18, 2014

Dorothy Mae (Schubert) Grell, daughter of John and Irene (Carstens) Schubert, was born on a farm near Holstein, Iowa on May 3, 1926. She graduated from Holstein High School in 1944. She received her teaching certificate from Buena Vista College, Storm Lake, Iowa and taught school before her marriage.

On January 15, 1947 she was united in marriage to LaVerne Grell. To this union one daughter and three sons were born: Mary Ann, Dennis, David and Mark. Dorothy and LaVerne spent 36 years on the farm. In 1983 they built a home at 429 S. Lubeck Street in Holstein, Iowa and moved there in November of that year. LaVerne passed away on May 30, 1993. Dorothy’s family was very important to her. She enjoyed her friends, playing cards, and reading. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church at Cushing, Iowa for many years. She is now a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Holstein.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a sister and brother-in-law Arlene and Durlyn Griffel and a brother Harold Schubert.

Those left to cherish her memory are children, Dennis and Kathryn (Conover) Grell of Altoona, Iowa, David and Linda (Cipperly) Grell of Prior Lake, Minnesota, Mary Ann (James) DeWit of Bay Minette, Alabama, and Mark and Terri (Rupert) Grell of Coralville, Iowa; ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren; one sister, Mary Lou (Wendell) Sorensen, sister-in-law, Audrey Schubert and many nieces and nephews.



Visitation:
A visitation will be held on Friday, March 21, 2014 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein.


Funeral:
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 10:00 AM at the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church of Holstein with the Rev. Curtis E. Benson officiating.


Burial:
Burial will be at the Holstein Cemetery of Holstein.
