Dorothy M. Thomsen

Dorothy Marie Thomsen passed away peacefully on January 29, 2016 at Sheriden Woods Healthcare in Bristol, Connecticut where she had received wonderful care for 7 years. She was born April 17, 1925 in Cherokee County to the late Thomas and Beulah Bevins. Dorothy grew up in Quimby, Iowa and graduated from Quimby High School in May of 1945, the first in her family to do so.

Dorothy had two great loves in her life, surviving her husband Guy Leslie Jensen who died May 24, 1964 and later marrying Carl Hans Thomsen who died September 7, 1998. A hard worker, she was employed for several years with Cantine’s Grocery Store in Quimby, Van Top in Holstein, Donna’s Café in Aurelia, and veterinarians Dr. Peuse and Smith in Holstein for 15 years. In the mid 1960’s Dorothy attended the Western Iowa Tech School of Nursing and received the LPN licensure, an accomplishment she was proud of. She then worked for a year at Sioux Valley Hospital in Cherokee, Iowa.

Dorothy loved to dance, tell jokes and laugh. She was a good cook and enjoyed baking. The family loved her caramel corn and spritz cookies at Christmas.

She is survived by her beloved daughter, Sandra and her husband George Allen of Plainville, CT; her two adored grandsons, Mark Weiland and Chris Weiland and his wife Amina; two great-grandsons, Guy and Roelf Weiland of Simsbury, CT; her brother, Charles Roger and his wife La Neltia (Nell) Bevins of Riverside, CA, and several nieces and nephews.

Aside from her parents she was predeceased by three brothers, William (Bill), Robert, and John (Jack) Bevins and five sisters, Charlotte Simmons, Betty Breyfogle, Lois Bevins, Margaret Davis and Phyllis Bevins (stillborn).
