Dorothy Marion (Otto) was born February 5, 1922 to parents, Henry H. Otto and Anna (Miller) Otto. She was baptized on February 19, 1922 by Pastor Henry Wehking and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church, rural Alta (Hanover) on March 31, 1935 by Pastor Otto Bahr. Dorothy attended St. John Lutheran School through 8th grade. As a young lady, Dorothy helped at home and then worked in Chicago and different area homes as a housekeeper and child care provider. She was united in marriage to Harry Winterhof on June 29, 1941. Dorothy and Harry farmed for 42 years in the Hanover area. She actively enjoyed quilting for over 20 years, with her many friends that she met at St. John School. She was also an active member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League at St. John. Dorothy will be remembered for her love of family and friends, kind-heartedness, baking, quilting, and love of flowers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; her parents; two brothers; and one sister. Dorothy is survived by her three sons, Loren (Mary) of Jackson, MO; Roger (Janis) of Urbandale, IA; and, Delbert (Cheryl) of Aurelia, IA; two daughters, Gaylene (Larry) Harms of Albuquerque, NM and Sondra (David) Mercier of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Melanie (Steve) Smith, Chad Winterhof, Ryan (Lee) Harms, Rachel (Mike) Fanning, Halli Winterhof, and Rhianna Mercier; great-grandchildren, Gabe and Abbie Harms; brothers, Arnold (Norma) Otto of Albert City, IA and Marvin (Lorraine) Otto of Alta, IA; sister, LaVonne Sievers of Storm Lake, IA; brothers and sisters-in-law, Orville (Iona) Winterhof of Aurelia, IA and Vernon (Suzanne) Winterhof of Aurelia, IA.
