Duane Burdette Schubert was born September 3, 1923 to Reuben and Dellav (Morrice) Schubert in Garfield Township near Battle Creek, IA. He grew up on the farm and graduated from Ida Grove High School in 1941.
He married Vernie Bottjen on February 12, 1946 at the Ida Grove Lutheran parsonage. To this union three children were born, Bonnie, Connie and Roger. The couple farmed in the Galva area until retiring and moving to Holstein in 1984. Upon moving to Holstein, they joined the St. Paul Lutheran Church.
He enjoyed dancing, golfing and playing cards with his many friends, but he especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two children who died in infancy, Connie and Roger Schubert; a son-in-law, Tom Roark; a brother-in-law, Virgil Bottjen; and a sister-in-law, Betty Schubert.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 67 years, Vernie of Holstein; daughter, Bonnie Roark of Correctionville; two granddaughters, Rene (Jaret) Byers of Correctionville, and Rochelle (Steve) Kenworthy of Independence, MO; two great-grandchildren, Riley and Tyler Byers of Correctionville; two brothers, Beryl (Romona) Schubert of Galva and Vance Schubert of Ida Grove; sister-in-law, Lorraine Bottjen of Anthon and many nieces and nephews.
