Duane C. Williams, age 75, of Omaha, NE formerly of Holstein, passed away on Sunday, February 14, 2021 at the Bellevue Medical Center of Bellevue, NE. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 06, 2021 at 1:00 PM at the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church of Holstein with the Pastor Bob Lewis officiating. Burial will be at the Holstein Cemetery of Holstein with military rites conducted by the American Legion Dessel-Schmidt Post #225 of Holstein.
Duane Carl Williams was born February 17, 1945 in Holstein, Iowa to Jess and Minnie (Kay) Williams. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Holstein. “Willy,” as he was known at Holstein High School, graduated in 1964. He participated in Black Pirate football as #25 and team captain. Willy was a state qualifier in the 880 yard run and two-mile relay team. Duane enjoyed singing in the vocal department concert choir, Boys Glee Club and Madrigal A.
Following graduation he went to Omaha to join BF Goodrich group. In 1966 Duane joined the U.S. Air Force and was sent to Germany on January 11, 1976 then served in Vietnam. He joined the Army Reserve National Guard in Omaha on April 14, 1974 and served until April 13, 1997.
Duane was married to Becky Niedeken on February 17, 1968 at the Air Force Base chapel in Laughlin, Texas. Three children were born to this union, Larry, Jim and Misty. In 1971 Duane and his family moved from Texas to Oklahoma, then to Sioux City where he was employed by BF Goodrich. In later years they moved to Omaha, Nebraska where he was a service manager for Clark Company.
Through the years Duane has been a true Nebraska Cornhusker fan, especially football. He also enjoyed stock car racing and collecting coins.
Duane was recognized for his volunteer work at the Norfolk Veterans Home and Eastern Aging Veterans Home in Omaha.
Duane passed away Sunday, February 14, 2021 from congestive heart failure. He had both Covid-19 vaccination shots and was looking forward to coming to visit Holstein.
Survivors include two children Misty (Tim) Kadel of Las Vegas, NV and Larry of CA; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild and one on the way; two sisters, Janith Glawe of Holstein, Judy Williams of Omaha, NE and their families; along with two aunts, an uncle and many cousins.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jimmy; grandparents, Carl and Paula Kay; two sisters, Edith and Diane; and brother-in-law, Lloyd Glawe.
Duane’s family wants to thank relatives and friends through the years for all the memories, especially the Eastern Aging Vet Home who provided him with excellent care and comfort. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
