Earl C. Heilman, age 79, of Holstein, passed away on Wednesday, October 05, 2016 at the Horn Memorial Hospital of Ida Grove. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the United Methodist Church of Holstein with the Rev. Doresa K. Collogan officiating. Burial will be at the Cushing Cemetery of Cushing with military rites conducted by the American Legion Dessel - Schmidt Post #225 of Holstein. A visitation will be held on Monday, October 10, 2016 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein.
Memorials may be directed to the Holstein United Methodist Church camp scholarship fund.
Earl Heilman was born November 15, 1936 in Holstein, Iowa to Charles and Elsie (Wyite) Heilman. He attended country school and graduated from Holstein High School in 1957. He joined the U.S. Army upon graduation at the age of 17. He met his future wife Marianne Bassauer in Germany, and they were married in 1957. To this union two sons were born, Kevin and Daron.
Earl farmed in Lanesboro, IA until the family moved to Holstein in 1962 where he farmed cattle, hogs and grain. He spent many years farming with his third “child” Goldie, a golden retriever. Earl was very handy and built most everything from scratch and rarely bought anything new. People often said of him that he could fix anything but a fan belt.
Earl was a member of the Holstein United Methodist Church and a longtime member of the Holstein Kiwanis.
He is survived by his wife Marianne; sons, Kevin and wife Patty of Sherwood, OR and their children, Alyssa and Michael; Daron and wife Dale of Las Vegas, NV and their children, Sha and Toni; and and sister-in-law Francis Heilman.
Earl is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Stanley Heilman and sister, Beulah Grell.
