Elsie C. Dutler, age 98, of Holstein, passed away on June 13, 2024 at The Good Samaritan Society in Holstein. A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 21, 2024 at 11:00 AM at the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church of Holstein with Pastor Del Olivier officiating. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be at the Holstein Cemetery of Holstein.
Elsie Christine Mordhorst Dutler was born on October 7, 1925 to William and Clara Johnson Mordhorst. She grew up on a farm two miles south of Ute, IA. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ute, IA. She went to country school and went to St Paul Lutheran Church in Ute IA for 7th and 8th grade and she graduated from Ute High School in May of 1943.
After school she went to work in Sioux City, IA at the battery factory and she took night school for bookkeeping. She did various jobs with that skill. She loved going to movies and dances. Dancing is where she met Harold Dutler. They were married on September 19, 1948 and to this union five children were born, Beverley, James, Gene, Mark and Karen. They lived and farmed two miles south of Holstein. They moved into Holstein in September of 2009. She loved gardening, flowers and taking care of her family.
She is survived by daughter, Bev Dutler Fick (Keith) and their children, Kristi Fick Resczenko (Mike), Deanne Fick Busta (Doug) and Kevin Fick (Amanda); son, James Dutler (Roxy) and their children, Stephanie Dutler Engle (Nick), Chad Dutler (Keely) and Eric Dutler (Stephanie); son, Gene Dutler (Nadine) and their son, Joshua (Beth); and daughter, Karen Dutler. She is also survived by grandchildren, Addison Busta, Tanner, Hayden and Morgan Fick, Katelyn and Madison Engle, Kinzey, Colton and Shae Dutler, Kiara, Ethan and Tyler Dutler and Herbert Dutler; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; son, Mark; parents, William and Clara Mordhorst; two brothers, Elmer and Lavern; sister-in-law, Luetta; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Don and Dorothy Dutler, Cecil and Garnet (Dutler) Henrichsen and Harold & Delores (Dutler) Parker and nephew Russell Mordhorst.
