Everett L. “Cappy” King was born July 12, 1923 to J. Cecil and Freida C. (Harm) King in Correctionville, Iowa. He graduated from Correctionville High School in 1941.
Everett was drafted in March 1943 and served in the European Theater, receiving a Combat Infantry Badge, Good Conduct Ribbon, a Purple Heart, Victory in Europe and the European Theatre Ribbon. This badge was adorned with three stars depicting the three major battles that determined victory in European Theater; Everett fought in all three.
Everett was united in marriage to Ruby Todd on June 15, 1951. To this union six children were born.
Everett worked as a farmhand briefly and managed State Liquor Store in Correctionville and Sioux City for 21 years. He also worked at the bulk mail center in Des Moines for 17 years before retiring in 1988. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, woodworking, playing cards, teasing, and playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandsons, Aaron Shever and Justin King; brothers, Earl, Elmer, Emmett, and Ernie; sister, Elaine; and sister-in-law, Mildred King.
Everett is survived by his wife, Ruby King of Correctionville, IA; his children, Linda (Fritz) Wigand of Correctionville, IA, Lynn “Bim”(Marie) King of Correctionville, IA, Lori King of Correctionville, IA, Lynette (Bryan) Shever of Cushing, IA, Lisa (Mike) Sorensen of Battle Creek, IA and Lorna (Tom) Brockmann of Hoskins, NE; ten grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brother, Ellis (Alice) King of Sioux City, IA; and sisters-in-law, Elsie King of Sioux City and Dorothy King of Larkspur, CO.
