Florence Mae (Thorborg) Hare was born May 31, 1927 to Ludwig and Laura (Husen) Thorborg in Holstein, Iowa. She graduated from Holstein High School in 1945.
Florence worked at the Council Oak Grocery Store in Holstein where she met her future husband, Robert Hare, who had just returned from World War II. They were united in marriage on February 25, 1948. The couple started farming near Battle Creek, Iowa. To this union two children were born, Harold and Norma. They continued farming in the Holstein and Galva area until the death of her husband in 1963. Florence and children moved to Holstein where Florence resided until 2011 when she moved to the Omaha area.
Florence was a member of the Holstein United Methodist Church, where she belonged to the Women’s Circle. She was a member and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary and also participated in several card clubs. She enjoyed gardening and flowers, especially geraniums and irises, as well as baking and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; brother, Elmer Thorborg; sister, Erma Clausen; and many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her son, Harold and his wife Kris Hare of Lake City, IA; daughter, Norma and her husband, Lee Sharpe of Omaha, NE; five grandchildren, David and Amy Hare of Boone, IA, Tim and Jenny Hare of Omaha, NE, Sarah Hare of Lake City, IA, Jennifer Sharpe of Omaha, NE and Ben Sharpe of Omaha, NE; seven great-grandchildren, Shaylie Johanssen, Kinley Hare, Kate Hare, Andrew Hare, Josh Hare, Allan Hill and Quintin Bolden; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
