Georgie Myrtue was born April 11, 1927 at Sioux City, IA to Harry and Johanna (Brummond) Anderson. Georgie graduated from East High School, Sioux City, in 1945 and from Morningside College in 1949. She worked in offices in Sioux City and came to Holstein in 1950 as a business education teacher for the Holstein schools. Georgie taught for three years before her marriage to Merle.
On April 11, 1953, Georgie married Merle Andrew Myrtue. Merle and Georgie were blessed with three sons. Georgie returned to teaching in 1969. She spent all 24 years of her teaching career working for the Holstein and Galva-Holstein Community Schools. In 1975 the Holstein Jaycees named her the outstanding educator. She had been a scorer and recorder for the Holstein Relays since 1950, and in 1989, before her retirement, she was named the Honorary Referee for the 51st Annual Galva-Holstein Relays.
She is preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Helen Bobo and Florence Evans.
Georgie is survived by her husband of 61 years, Merle of Holstein, IA; sons, Steve of Ft. Dodge, IA, Andy (Marilyn) of Murray, NE, and John of Moore, OK; grandchildren, Jill (Travis) Case, Kate (Kevin) Pulec and Lucy Myrtue; and great-grandson, River Case.
