Harold K. Stange

October 9, 1938 — August 24, 2016

Harold was born October 9, 1938, at Cherokee, Iowa, the son of Harry and Mabel (Ludvigson) Stange. He attended school at Cushing and graduated from there in 1957.  He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran church in Holstein.

Upon graduation, he farmed until 1961, when he entered the Army and served until 1963.  He then returned to the farm until 1969, when he then began working as a mechanic at Baumann Garage in Holstein.  In 1984, he quit working at the garage and gradually built his lawn mowing and snow removal business, also doing many odd jobs for people in the community.  This he did until his health kept him from continuing.

Harold enjoyed visiting with people and was able to remember much of the family history and had a good memory of the area and who lived where, when they lived there and how everyone was related.

He was always interested in his nephew, Dean’s and niece Wren’s families and the activities they were in.   He would remember their birthdays, enjoyed their visits and phone calls and would ask how everyone was doing.

He was proud of his service to his country and was a member of the American Legion Dessel-Schmidt Post 225 of Holstein.

In December of 2009, Harold moved to Char-Mac assisted living in Holstein.  There he resided until April of this year, when after a fall, he moved to the Good Samaritan Society in Holstein.  He was peacefully called home to be with the Lord this past Wednesday morning at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.

He is survived by a nephew, Dean Lill and wife Charlene of Hawarden; a niece, Wren and husband, Dennis Smith of Holstein; great nieces and nephews, Beth and Robert Vore, of Sundance Wyoming, Kara Brooks, also of Sundance,  Wyoming, Sarah Smith of Spencer, Iowa, and Lucas Smith and wife Lyndsey of Moville; four great-great nieces and nephews, Lauryn Brooks, Gage Vore, Houston and Eden Smith.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Mabel (Ludvigson) Stange; a sister, Dorothy and husband Lloyd Lill; and a brother Marion Stange.
