Harriett Laura (Kordt) Michaelsen

Harriett L. Michaelsen, age 101, of Holstein, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Society of Holstein.  A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 18, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the United Methodist Church of Holstein with the Rev. Doresa K. Collogan officiating.  Burial will be at the Holstein Cemetery of Holstein.  A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service starting at 10:00 AM at the church.

Harriett Laura (Kordt) Michaelsen was born May 21, 1917 to Fred and Helen (Sindt) Kordt.  She was lifetime resident of Holstein, Iowa and a 1936 graduate of Holstein High School.

Harriett was united in marriage to Lester Michaelsen on June 17, 1936.  To this union three children were born.

She was employed at the Farmers Co-op Gas Station in Holstein and was the head cook for the Galva-Holstein Schools for 19 years.   Harriett was a member of the United Methodist Church.  She enjoyed reading and doing word searches.  She loved spending time with her family and her coffee friends at 3 P.M., as well as caring for her African Violets.

She is survived by her children, Nancy (Grant) Joy, Karen (Jim) Breyfogle and Mike (Nancy) Michaelsen; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren plus one expected in July.

Harriett was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lester in 2001; granddaughter, Stacey Starnes; and great-grandson Wade Breyfogle.
