Helen Elizabeth (Segebart) Eriksen

Holstein

Helen E. Eriksen, age 91, of Holstein, passed away on Tuesday, December 25, 2018 at the Holstein Senior Living of Holstein.  A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 28, 2018 at 1:30 PM at the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church of Holstein with the Pastor Bob Lewis officiating.  Burial will be at the Holstein Cemetery of Holstein.  A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 27, 2018 from 3:30 PM – 6:30 PM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein.

Helen was born March 7, 1927, in Crawford County.  She was the second of five children born to John and Margaret (Krayenhagen) Segebart.  Helen was baptized in Denison, and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Galva. She attended country school through the eighth grade, and graduated from Galva High School.  After attending Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, she taught country school for one year.

On November 30, 1947, Helen married Lyle Eriksen of Galva.  They were blessed with four daughters.  They farmed for 11 years, then moved to Holstein.

Helen enjoyed gardening, crocheting and especially being with her family.  She also enjoyed traveling.  She was very active in her church community.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Sandy Hollemweguer (-1974); her husband, Lyle (-2008); parents; a sister, Ruth Johnson; and a brother, Robert.

She is survived by three daughters Elaine & Jim Knautz of Milwaukee, WI, Barbara & Dan Griffin of Elizabeth, CO and Gail Eriksen of Galva, IA; grandchildren and their families, Jennie & Dave Neubauer (children Owen & Emma) of Lannon, WI; Erik & Grace Knautz (children Lucy & Eloise) of Greenfield, WI; Meghan & Celso Espinoza (children Elena & Elita) of Grayslake, IL; and Nicki Griffin of San Francisco, CA; and six great-grandchildren.
