la Estelle Gulbranson was born April 12, 1914 in Alta, the daughter of Carl G. and Addie Gulbranson. Ila attended school in Alta and graduated from Alta High School in May of 1932.
Ila graduated from St. Luke's School of Nursing in Chicago in 1937 and became a registered nurse in Illinois, Minnesota, Kansas, and Iowa. She taught and supervised in nursing schools in Minnesota and Kansas, and worked for Dr. R.P. Noble in Alta and at the Alta Memorial Hospital. On April 4, 1946, Ila was united in marriage to Gunerius Allan Lee of Roseau, Minnesota by Reverend Dale in the Methodist Parsonage in Alta. To this union four children were born, Douglas, Linda, Donna, and Gary.
Ila enjoyed her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved teaching Sunday School, Bible School, and spending time with her church friends at the United Methodist Church of Alta. There she held the office of Sunday school superintendent, was a member of the official board, belonged to the WSCS and UMW and the Susannah Wesley Circle. Ila, a thirty-year cancer survivor, was also very active in the community as a Bandmother, 4-H Leader, Scout Leader, was a Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star, and a member of Nokomis and Golf Club. Ila enjoyed traveling to Singapore, the Philippines and England visiting her daughter.
Ila was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, G. Allan Lee; a sister, Ava Post; a brother, John Lee Gulbranson; and a brother-in-law, L. Roy Post.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Doug Lee (Carol Edwards) of Knoxville, TN, Linda Schultz (Richard) of Roland, IA, Donna Barlow of Aloha, OR, and Gary Lee of Des Moines, IA; 11 Grandchildren, Tom (Erin) Schultz of Ames, IA, Anna Andrews (Dion) of Ames, IA, Nicholas Schultz of Ankeny, IA, Peter Schultz of Minneapolis, MN, Richard Lee (Patricia) of Knoxville, TN, Kirsten Sewell (Chris) of Knoxville, TN, James Barlow (Kelly) of Aloha, OR, Heidi Sinkovich (Brett) of Ventura, CA, Amy Barlow of Portland, OR, Sean Lee of Grimes, IA, Jodi Lee (Phil) of Windsor Heights, IA; 6 Great-Grandchildren, Alexander Dalpoggetto, Coraline Lee, Bennett, Alyssa, and Hannah Lee, and Rylan Schultz.
