Jan Tiefenthaler was born July 20, 1935 to Alice (Otto) and Jerome Bruening of Carroll, Iowa. She graduated from Lake City High School in 1953. Jan then attended Iowa State Teacher College in Cedar Falls, Iowa, where she graduated with a two-year elementary teaching degree. She put her degree to use in Odebolt, Iowa in 1955 where she taught at the 2nd grade level for three years. During that time she met Leonard Tiefenthaler of Odebolt and the couple were married on December 28, 1957 at St. Martins Church in Odebolt. Jan and Leonard were blessed with six children.
Janice enjoyed camping, playing cards, dancing, making quilts and was an excellent cook. She loved spending time with family and friends. She was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, where she was a CCD teacher. Jan belonged to several card clubs and the Good Sam’s Camping Group.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard; her parents; her parents-in-law, Martha and Herbert Tiefenthaler; sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Jim Demmon; brothers-in-law, James Moore, Don Schwaller and Bob Tiefenthaler; and great-grandson, Elliot Jordan.
Survivors include her children, Sandy (Steve) Alley of Absarokee, MT, Steve (Lynette) Tiefenthaler of Holstein, IA, Laurie (John) Lawson of Spencer, IA, John (Shelly) Tiefenthaler of Holstein, IA, Tim (Mary) Tiefenthaler of Red Oak, IA and Tony (Susan) Tiefenthaler of Springview, NE; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Marlene (Ron) Feilmeyer, Barbara Moore, Margaret (Dave) Reinhart, Pat (Gary) Delong; brother, Tom (Bev) Bruening; sisters-in-law, Verna Mae Schwaller, Thelma (Darrell) Schroeder, Karen (Neil) Johnson, Kathy (Tom) Kros and Phyll Tiefenthaler. She will be missed by all of her family and friends.
