Jessica Aaren Mathes

Jessica A. Mathes (Jessie), age 28, formerly of Holstein, passed away on Friday, October 8, 2021 at her home of Waukee.  A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at 3:00 PM at the St. John’s Lutheran Church of Galva with the Rev. Paul D. Egger officiating.  Burial will be held at a later date.  A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Jessica's honor at the United Bank of Iowa and Venmo@jessicamathesmemorial. All memorials will go to charities that support suicide prevention and survivors of domestic violence.

Jessica Aaren Mathes, “Jessie” was born August 28, 1993.  She graduated from Galva-Holstein High School and earned a degree in finance from Drake University.

She always had a sense of adventure and a love for the beauty of nature.  She was happiest with the simple things in life like cuddling her animals or drinking hot chocolate while reading a book.  She had a desire for knowledge and was teaching herself several foreign languages because she wanted to take her work with the Red Cross overseas.  She loved her job at the Red Cross and her face would always light up when she spoke about how her latest project was helping others.  Her servant heart and desire to do good in the world will always be remembered.

She is survived by her parents, Don and Glenda; her siblings, Breanna, Kate, Marcie, Allen and Casey and their spouses and children; her grandmother, Mary Nell; many aunts, uncles and cousins; and her fur babies, Ruby and Pixie.
