Juanita Caroline (Morgan) Johnson

Juanita C. Johnson, age 91, of Schaller, IA, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at Holstein Senior Living in Holstein, IA. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 10:30 A.M. at the Schaller United Methodist Church. A visitation will be held one hour before the service at 9:30 A.M. at the church. Burial will be at the Ida Grove Cemetery of Ida Grove, lA.

Juanita Caroline Johnson was born October 16, 1933, in Battle Creek, IA, to Len and Edna (Rollwagen) Morgan. She graduated from Battle Creek High School in 1951. She then attended Wayne State College and Buena Vista College, earning a bachelor's degree in education. She taught in several schools, including Arthur, Ida Grove, Sheldon, and Cherokee, and she retired in Schaller in 1991. She loved teaching and valued all of her students greatly.

She was united in marriage to Merlin Stratton in 1960. They were blessed with a daughter, Lisa. They later divorced in 1970. Juanita married Melvin Johnson in Hartley, IA, on July 1, 1978. Melvin passed away on September 28, 2018.

Juanita was a member of the United Methodist Church, where she was active in the UMW, and was a Sunday School and Bible School teacher. She also belonged to the Eastern Star and the Red Hat Society. Juanita loved reading, doing crosswords and jumbo words, and shopping, and she especially loved spending time with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Johnson; parents, Len and Edna Morgan; sister, Beverly Backhaus; brother-in-law, Alden Backhaus; and sister-in-law,
Pam Morgan.

Juanita is survived by her daughter, Lisa (Darrin) Schmidt of Holstein, IA; granddaughter, Jadyn Schmidt of Holstein, IA; brother, Doug Morgan of Lawrence, KS; several nieces and nephews; along with great-nieces and nephews.
