Karen Sue (Rochau) Scott was born December 21, 1957 to Jack and Lorraine (Wiese) Rochau at Sioux Valley Hospital in Cherokee, Iowa. Karen had three brothers but could always hold upon her end in an argument. Karen loved being with people and never ran out of things to talk about. As she got older she decided she wanted to be a candy striper at the nursing home in Holstein and enjoyed visiting with the residents. She liked to play Kings Corner with her grandma Wiese and enjoyed combing her grandpa Wiese’s hair. She started earning some money by cleaning up at the food locker after closing, babysitting, as a bar tender and delivering the Sioux City Journal. On her summer breaks she worked with the mentally challenged at Glenwood. She graduated from Holstein High School in 1976 then went on to study at Wayne State College and Elsworth Community College in Cedar Falls.
Karen was confirmed at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church by Pastor Petersen and was later married there to Thomas Andrew Scott on March 29, 1982. During their marriage they lived in Cedar Rapids, Sioux Falls, Ames and Forest Lake, Minnesota and returned to Holstein to live the past four years. She worked in management at HyVee and Cub Foods and when she returned to Holstein she got a job at the Holstein Super Market. In her free time she enjoyed fishing, gardening and going to the casino.
Karen is survived by her husband, Tom Scott; mother, Lorraine Rochau; and brothers, Jerry and Keith Rochau and an aunt, Bonnie Wiese. She is also survived by many of Tom’s extended family and their friends.
She is preceded in death by her father, Jack Rochau; brother, Steven Rochau; grandparents, Clarence and Svanhilda Rochau and Herman and Christina Wiese; aunts and uncles, Hermina Wiese, Melvin and Luella Beers, Lawrence and Edna Steen, Eldon and Eva Wiese, Alvin Wiese, and many cousins.
