Katherine Kistenmacher was born on October 27, 1919 to Max and Katie (Haack) Spiese. She attended country grade school and graduated from Battle Creek High School in 1937. She worked at the Luna Theatre in Battle Creek.
On March 21, 1939, Katherine was united in marriage to Edwin Kistenmacher in Holstein by Rev. Matthies in the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was also baptized and confirmed by Rev. Matthies on April 21, 1940. The couple bought a farm northeast of Holstein where they raised three children: Steven, Sharon and Kenneth. Katherine loved her life as a farmer’s wife, homemaker and mother. She enjoyed baking, cooking, embroidery work, card parties and going shopping in Sioux City with her sisters.
She will be remembered for her kindness of spirit and her generosity of giving.
Katherine is survived by her three children, Steven Kistenmacher of Holstein, Sharon Lawrence of Holstein and Kenneth and wife, Jan Kistenmacher of Cherokee; six grandchildren, Staci (Shaun) Mikulicz, Stephanie (David) Haviland, Carolyn (Gregg) Goettsch, Alan Kistenmacher, Kristi (Benjamin) Held, Keith Kistenmacher; three great-grandchildren, Braden Haviland and Alexandria and Edmund Held. She is also survived by four sisters, Bonita Diamond, Alice (Earl) Miller, Rebecca (Roger) Schmidt and Linda (Bob) Mattson; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Katherine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edwin; a brother, Bill Spiese; and three sisters, Maxine Feddersen, Marjorie Hansen and Mildred Ernst.
