Kermit Hase was born in Schaller, Iowa on May 11, 1927 to Grace and Paul Hase. He graduated from high school in 1945 and immediately entered the U.S. Navy. After being honorably discharged from the Navy in 1946, Kerm returned to Schaller. Kerm later attended electronics training in Kansas City, Missouri, but returned home many weekends. On one of those weekends, he met his wife-to-be Alma Scherner, of Holstein. Kerm and Alma were married in 1954, living first in Schaller before moving to Kansas City in 1961. While in Kansas City, Kerm and Alma ran a successful car radio repair and installation business. After retirement in 1994, Kerm and Alma moved to Holstein, Iowa.
Kerm had an unwavering love and devotion to his wife, Alma. He enjoyed woodworking, reading, watching cartoons, playing computer and card games, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with family. Kerm will be remembered for his quirky sense of humor, his sparkling blue eyes, and the genuine warmth and love he so generously shared with everyone. Kerm was a member of the American Legion Dessel-Schmidt Post #225 of Holstein, and enjoyed helping out with bingo.
Kerm was preceded in death by his parents, Grace and Paul; brothers Robert, Vernon, and George; and a sister Frances.
He is survived by his wife, Alma; daughter, Kristine and son-in-law David Zauke; son, Alan and daughter-in-law Dena Hase; grandchildren, Grace and Michael Hase, Matthew and Sarah Zauke; brother, Frank Hase; and sisters, Mary Stille, and Adella Schroth; as well as many nieces and nephews.
