Larry Edward Mcdermott

Larry E. McDermott, age 76, of Washta passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center of Cherokee, Iowa.  a Military Rites will be held on June 17, 2023 at the Correctionville War Memorial with a luncheon to follow at the Little Sioux River Park near Correctionville, IA.

Larry E. McDermott was born September 5, 1946 to Harold and Loy (VanBuskirk) McDermott in Lynwood, CA.  He graduated from Mapleton High School in 1964.  After high school joined the U.S. Army and was inducted on June 27, 1966.  He started in the 4th Infantry and reassigned to the 3rd Infantry 69th Armor Regiment where he moved up in rank as a Sergeant.  He was honorably discharged on June 26, 1972.

He was united in marriage to Beverly Kay Jochims and to this union five children were born.  They were married for 28 years and lived in the Omaha and Council Bluffs area.  On January 16, 2009 he was married to Eugenia McDermott.  They made their home in Washta, Iowa.

Larry worked for many years in the telecommunications industry.  He enjoyed collecting watches, and adored his grandchildren.  He loved Harley Davidson motorcycles and riding the open roads.  He was a member of the VFW and American Legion.

Larry is survived by his wife, Eugenia McDermott; children, Theresa Rowland, Chad McDermott, Kelli McDermott- Feather, Keri McDermott and Ryan McDermott; 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; siblings, Lyn McDermott and Donna Hoag; and many other loving family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Loy C. and Harold F. McDermott; the mother to his five wonderful children, Beverly K. McDermott and nephew, Dean Hoag.
