Lawrence “Hooley” McGuire was born June 29, 1934 to Charles and Mary (Leahy) McGuire in Danbury, Iowa. As a child he enjoyed playing baseball and basketball. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956-1958 and the Navy Reserve.
He was united in marriage to Janice Monroe on December 26,1960 and they were blessed with four children. Hooley worked for FAA as a painter from 1960-1965, then became a Standard Oil Jobber, and owner of McGuire Oil Co., which included a fuel delivery service as well as the owner of the Shamrock Motel and gas station.
Hooley was a very active supporter of the Holstein Pirates. He was a videographer for football games and volunteered at many track and field events. He was a longtime member of the Holstein Town and Country Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Cleo and Jerry McGuire; sister, Pauline Hansen and brother-in-law, Bob Sitzmann.
Hooley is survived by his wife Janice of Holstein, IA; son, Kelly McGuire of Port Orchard, WA; daughters, Michelle McGuire of San Diego, CA, Melanie (McGuire) Leinbaugh of Eden Prairie, MN, Shannon McGuire of Savage, MN and; granddaughter, Ashley (Ryan) Bantz of St. Louis Park, MN; brother, Pat (Judy) McGuire of Brighton, CO; sister, Charlotte Sitzmann of Storm Lake, IA; and many nieces and nephews.
