Linda K. Schmidt

Linda Kay Schmidt was born on March 16, 1944 to Herbert and Cleone (Oesterle) Hueschen in Cherokee, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. She grew up in Holstein and graduated from Holstein High School.

Linda married her best friend, David F. Schmidt, on May 14, 1964 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Holstein, Iowa. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on May 14, 2014 with their family and friends.

The couple was blessed with two children, Lisa and Mike. Dave and Linda raised their children in Holstein. As a family, they attended their children’s school functions, went on yearly family vacations and mini-vacations, and did many activities together as a family, especially playing cards.

As Dave worked to support the family, Linda worked hard at home raising their two children, cooking, cleaning, and providing a home full of love and laughter for her family. She also had a career as a Sales Representative with Avon for over 40 years.

Linda was known for her giving heart. She sacrificially gave herself to her family and friends in many ways, leaving a legacy of giving for her family. Never knowing a stranger, Linda always had a warm smile and kind words for everyone. She enjoyed visiting with people wherever she went, attending church, spending time with her family, going to her grandchildren’s school and sports functions, talking on the phone with her best friend, putting together puzzles, and playing Bingo. Linda’s biggest joys in life were her husband, children, and grandchildren to whom she gave much love and happiness.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Herb and Cleone Hueschen; her brother, Dennis Hueschen; her grandparents; as well as several aunts and uncles.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, David; her daughter, Lisa (Schmidt) Frakes (and husband, Michael) of Mapleton, Iowa; her son, Mike Schmidt (and wife, Julie) of Dysart, Iowa; six grandchildren, Ashley Harwerth (and her husband, Nate) of Sterling, Colorado, Kaylee McDowall (and her wife, Haley) of Danbury, Iowa, Thomas Oberreuter of Danbury, Iowa, Olivia Oberreuter of Sioux City, Iowa, and Emily and Aubrey Schmidt of Dysart, Iowa; four great grandchildren, Taylor McDowall of Danbury, Iowa, Titus, Ellie, and Caleb Harwerth of Sterling, Colorado; and her very dear friend of thirty plus years, Sandy Freese of Holstein, Iowa.
