Lola L. Radke

October 4, 1919 — April 4, 2013

Lola Lucille (Huseman) Radke was born October 4, 1919 at rural Alta, IA to William and Ida (Oatman) Huseman. Lola was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. She attended grade school in Schaller and later graduated from Alta High School. Lola was united in marriage to Orville Radke on February 4, 1940 at St. John Lutheran Church, Hanover where they attended church for many years. They raised a family and farmed in the Hanover area until retiring in 1981, when they moved to Alta. At that time they became members of St. Paul’s Church in Alta. Lola and Orville were married 67 years. Lola was very active her entire life. She loved to travel and visited Las Vegas 20 consecutive years. She and Orville traveled to Hawaii and many other states visiting friends and relatives along the way. Lola was an avid card player, and she played to win. She would play cards with anyone but loved playing against her children and grandchildren. At the end of the game she had a certain smile that let you know she had won. Lola will be remembered for: awesome home cooked meals, smiles, delicious pies, baby geese, being a hard worker, lucky, independent, opinionated, spirited, loving, fair, fun, pretty, neat, always a lady and always a true friend. She loved attending her grandchildren’s activities as her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were her greatest love. Even to the end, she could identify and name each of them. “Grandma Lola” will be deeply missed by all of us. Lola passed away Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Sunset Knoll in Aurelia, IA after a brief illness at the age of 93 years and 6 months. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville, grandson, Douglas Taber, daughter-in-law, Jane Radke, her parents, one sister, Iona Hausman and husband Forrest, two brothers, Merle and wife Peg Huseman and Darrell Huseman. Lola is survived by one daughter, Kathy Taber and Max of Alta; four sons, Myron and Sue of Aurelia, Roger and Lynn of LeMars, Russell and Cyndie of Kansas City, MO and James and Lori of Storm Lake; one brother, Vernon and Joyce of Ft. Dodge; one sister, Faye and Ronald Peterson of Alta; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Huseman of Ft. Dodge; 13 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, many nieces nephews and friends.
