Margaret A. Crow was born July 28, 1942 in Emmetsburg, Iowa to Harold and Donna (Bailey) Fude. She graduated from Webb Consolidated High School in 1959, then went on to earn a degree in nursing from St. Joseph School of Nursing in 1962.
Margaret was united in marriage to James Crow on February 23, 1962 in Sioux City, Iowa. To this union three daughters were born.
Margaret worked as an RN at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove as well as Cherokee Regional Medical Center of Cherokee and Siouxland Health Department of Sioux City. She retired in 1999 after 37 years of service.
In retirement, Margaret stayed extremely busy. She was a member of the Cushing City Council since November 2002, a board member of Mid-Step Services in Sioux City, Iowa, at her daughter Karen’s work site, she served on the Rural Responders Task Force in 2009 and was a founding member and secretary of the Old 20 Community Development Corporation, established in August 2014. She joined the local Red Hat Society shortly after she retired, and she was an active member of the Cushing Community Library Book Club. She regularly joined several members of the St. John’s Lutheran Church of Cushing in serving at the Siouxland Soup Kitchen in Sioux City Iowa. She received a Civic Recognition Award for Acts of Compassion and Kindness.
Margaret was proud of her community of Cushing, Iowa and was actively involved in numerous local activities, including Kid’s Day in the Park fundraiser, Old Fashioned Wednesday Night in Cushing, and many, many more. If a volunteer was needed for a project or committee, she was there. If a friend had problems, she was always there with an encouraging word, a card or a flower, and her home-baked cookies. Margaret was passionate about recycling, preserving our earth and animal rights.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband James Crow in 1999; parents-in-law, Emery and Margaret (Jensen) Crow; brother-in-law, Bryce Wellnitz and sister-in-law, Shirley Maze.
Margaret is survived by her daughter, Kathy and husband, Dan Kaminski and their daughter Katie of Cumming, Georgia; her daughter, Tracy and husband Gary Gilpin and their son, Nathen of Phoenix, Arizona; and daughter, Karen Crow of Sioux City, Iowa. She is also survived by brothers, Ray and wife Karen Fude of Waukegan, IL, Ron and wife Elizabeth Fude of Blair, Nebraska, and Roger Fude of Spencer, Iowa; sister, Donna Wellnitz of Lincoln, Nebraska; and sisters-in-law, Colleen and husband Larry Barth of Des Moines, Iowa and Patty Glisar of Sioux City Iowa.
