Marjorie Irene Peterson was born to Alfred and Elsie (Partridge) Peterson on September 10, 1930 at Alta, Iowa. She graduated from Alta High School in 1948 and was employed at The Peterson Store in Alta. She later worked and lived in Storm Lake, Des Moines Arizona & Mason City.
Her mother died when Marjorie was about one year old. She was left with her Dad & two “big” brothers, as well as her special Uncle Adolph. She was especially close to her Aunt Pearl & Uncle Elmer & their children Les, Rose, Margelet, Eddie, & Doris Jean (double cousins, since their mothers were sisters & their fathers brothers) , who helped with her care in those early years. .
On December 1, 1972 she married Melvin Hawke & they made their home in Fountain Hills, AZ, later living in Worthington, Mn., Sioux Falls, SD, Mt Ayr & Mason City, Iowa. Mel passed away in 1994. Marjorie remained in their home in Mason City until health problems prompted a move to Assisted Living in Alta & later to Buena Vista Manor in Storm Lake, where she passed away on April 20, 2016.
Marjorie enjoyed life. She loved the farm where she grew up & the farm that she shared with her husband in Mt Ayr. She liked to golf and enjoyed travel with Mel. She loved her family and especially loved & enjoyed the family Mel brought to their marriage.
Marjorie leaves to mourn her passing her children, Marlene (Jerry) Maffia, Phyllis Pederson, Darla Densel, Jim (Nancy) Hawke, Carol (Chuck) Emery, Gary (Vicky) Hawke; daughter-in-law, Maxine Hawke; and 36 loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister in-law Janice Peterson; and many nephews, nieces and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother Hilda Peterson; husband, Melvin; son, Alan Hawke; step-sons-in-law, Jim Endriss, Bob Pederson and Roger Densel; her brothers Harold (Beverly) & LaVerne; her sister Darlene (John) Phebus; and nieces, Kathy Fahr & Gayle Carter.
